Cortelco Compass System

The Compass System is designed based on modified DECT(Digital European Cordless Telecommunication) protocol with ISM 2.4 GHz operating frequency. The system employs sophisticated FHSS(Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum) Technology to support maximum security against eavesdropping and each system contains a default database that can be manipulated to meet specific customer requirements. Customer databases can be stored via pc for backup and access to customer database is password protected. The system's programming can be done using a Windows based PC(programing software and nine pin RS232 cable is provided). The system clock provides a real-time reference which appears on the handset LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) and also provides reference times for system call logs.

The Compass System consists of one MBS(Master Base Station) that contains all of the circuitry for control functions, feature operations, trunk/analog port interfaces, and connection points for peripheral equipment. Up to four RBS(Remote Base Station) units can be connected to one MBS, each supporting four simultaneous voice conversations, allowing the up to 70 registered handsets to have a maximum of 16 simultaneous voice conversations. Each handset has a three-way line. An RCA input for the MOH(Music on Hold) is standard equipment on each MBS and any standard audio source can be used to supply an input signal. The Compass also has a RCA output jack for external paging. A printer port is provided for printing call logs. The system also has built in auto attendant features and can be used to answer incoming calls, play a company greeting, and/or allow the caller to transfer direct to handsets. An optional analog card provides six wired ports for connection of wired phones such as faxes and modems. Line four on the system has automatic fax switching capability to route the fax call directly to a fax or modem connected to the MBS. The MBS also has five LED(Light Emitting Diode) for monitoring the RBS units and system power. The Compass system is powered by an external AC/DC switching power supply. (One power supply for each MBS)

The Cortelco Compass System uses four different Printed Circuit Boards (PCB's):

• Central Processing Unit= primary control center for the compass system.
• RBS Interface card= provides connections for all four RBS units on each MBS
• SLT Interface card= provides up to six analog dial tones for connection for various analog devices to the system
• CO/Trunk Interface card= provides inputs for four incoming CO lines and/ or PBX analog ports (Maximum of two CO cards per MBS)
